Carolina Cat Boats, a member of the PowerCat Group, has just announced a new 23-ft center console power catamaran. The 23CC cruises at 27 mph, has a top speed of 46 mph and a range of more than 250 miles. Its catamaran hull draws only 9 inches of water and is designed for smooth rides in rough seas. This power catamaran is ideal for long offsore runs as well as hugging the shore to access the best fishing areas. With seating for as many as 10 and twin four-stroke 115 Yamaha engines, this is a perfect cruising cat.

If you’re interested in a slightly smaller powercat, read this earlier post about the Carolina Cat 18CC powercat. You can also see the 23CC in action in this YouTube video.

The PDQ 34 has a history as one of the most popular power catamarans in North America. It was followed up by the PDQ 41, which made its debut in 2006. One of the most unique features of the PDQ 41 is a master suite on the bridge deck level with windows on all sides. The PDQ 41 also boasts a large flying bridge area that resembles the bridge on a much larger yacht.

The PDQ 41 offers a balance between speed and fuel economy. At a cruising speed of 17-18 knots, approximately 10 gallons of fuel are consumed per hour. Top speed is 24-25 knots.

Read more about the PRQ 41 on the PDQ Yachts website.

Aspen Power Catamarans build a 28′ C90 Cruiser that features a modern Proa Hull design and 35% more interior hull square footage than comparable monohull designs. The Aspen is equipped with solar panels that can recharge onboard batteries at dock or anchor. Asymmetric hulls and a single diesel engine allow the C90 to use less than 4.5 gal/hour at cruising speeds of 18-20 mph.

Aspen powercats are design by Larry Graf and an engineering team that have more than 30 years of combined catamaran design experience. The C90 Cruiser is a fuel-efficient powercat that is the perfect solution for powercat lovers who care about the environment.

Proteus is an altogether new kind of power catamaran. This “Wave Adaptive Modular Vessel” was designed by California Bay Area engineer Ugo Conti, who had spent months sailing around the world with his wife and son but never got over his seasickness. This insect-inspired water craft has twin inflatable pontoons that absorb the motion of the waves and provide a smooth ride for passengers in a cabin that is perched high above the water. It has been dubbed the “Spider Ship” because of the appearance of its support structure.

See stunning footage of Proteus on the water in this short documentary on YouTube. You can also read more about the science behind this adaptive vessel in this Wikipedia article.
